The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club was a pioneer in Victorian Surf
Life Saving when the then Club Captain,
John Turner commenced a program
for junior surf life savers in 1967 after seeing a similar program in the United States.
This training program was a major initiative to the Club as it trained
children in surf awareness, surf life saving competition, basic first aid
and resuscitation, as well as being an avenue to membership recruitment.
Over time, this area has developed to become a major focus of Surf Life
Saving across Australia.
The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club bases the Nipper program at the
Santa Casa Beach Queenscliff.
Children can join Point Lonsdale's Nippers at any age from U/8
(7yrs) to U/14 (13yrs). Age groups in Surf Life Saving are determined by
the age you are on 30th September each year. Please note that children must be a minimum age of 7 years, as of
midnight, 30th September to join Point Lonsdale's Nippers.
We do not offer an Under 6 or Under 7 program.
Nippers start learning about surf awareness and safety through the
program. They are also able to participate in board paddling, surfing,
swimming, running, wading and other fun activities and games. Practising
these skills allows children to compete in Club, Regional and State Surf
Life Saving Carnivals representing their Club. Surf Life Saving Australia
also conducts development camps in every state. During Season 2010 / 2011
our Head Coach will be offering specialised Aquatic Sports training
opportunities to Nippers.
The
Nipper program is not a learn to swim program
and your child (ren) should be confident in swimming in ocean conditions. To give you an idea of the
swimming capabilities expected, each child should be able to swim the
following distances without stopping and complete a survival float for the
time specified.

up until a point where limits are reached for a particular age group.

be any vacancies for Nippers.
Season 2010 / 2011
requirement:
Dear Nipper Parents,
RE: WORKING WITH
CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC)
Our Nipper program runs entirely on the help of our
wonderful volunteers.
New to the 2010 / 2011 Nipper season it will be a
requirement of Life Saving Victoria
that all
registered Nippers have at least one parent with a WWCC.
Your child / children will not be accepted as a Nipper
of the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club
unless one parent / guardian is a member of the Club and
they have a WWCC.
Therefore you will need to organise your WWCC number PRIOR to registration and include
your
WWCC details on the rear of this form.
It may be more affordable for some families to take up
our reduced family membership.
If you want more information on the WWCC and how to
complete the form, you can visit the
Club’s website –
www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au and follow the link on the left hand side to
the ‘Working with Children’ Page.
After the success of our volunteer roster last year we
will be requiring a WWCC registered parent to
volunteer twice
on our roster on Orientation day.
You can volunteer to help out in the following
activities :
Parent Helper, First Aider, Helping on the BBQ, Selling
icypoles, Working in the bar at the club,
Cosy Corner Age Manager, Packing Boards for Cosy Corner,
Unpacking Boards for Cosy Corner,
Driving the board trailer to Cosy Corner, Set up the
tent at Cosy Corner, Pack up of the tent at
Cosy Corner, Championship day setup, event marshalling
and pack up, podium photographer,
roving photographer and presentation photographer.
Thank you so much for being part of the Point Lonsdale
Surf Club and we hope that the inconvenience
of registering for a WWCC will be worth it for the
benefit for a successful Nipper Season.
If
you have any further specific queries (not queries to do with enrolments /
joining the Club) about the Point Lonsdale SLSC Nipper program, please
e-mail our Vice President (Y&LD), Kirsten MacLeod at vpyldatpointlonsdaleslscdotasndotau (Replace the
‘at’ and ‘dot’s’ when e-mailing !)
We are providing images from some Nipper Championships (and the Nipper
Program in general) via the Internet. To protect the privacy of our
members, only current members (or their parents) will be permitted to have
access to a password protected site where they can view these images. If
you wish to apply for this access, please e-mail the Club Office - officeatpointlonsdaleslscdotasndotau
who will verify that you are a member / parent of a Nipper and then access
details will be provided once your membership has been verified.
