Surf Rescue Base : Queenscliff - Santa
Casa (Nun's) Beach
Background:
The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club is one of only a handful
of Clubs in Australia that operates more than one facility.
In 1999 the Club was successful in instigating a Professional
Lifeguard service at Queenscliff. During this period the Club
decided on this beach as the permanent home for the busy Summer
Nipper program. From 1999 to 2002 the Club utilised a shipping
container as a temporary base.
The Club saw that a need to establish a permanent, secure base
that would provide adequate storage for equipment needed to support
Professional Lifeguard patrols, Volunteer surf lifesaving patrols,
the Nipper program, off season training at Santa Casa and dedicated
space for first aid. The beach was not serviced by public toilets,
so the provision of unisex toilet facilities for public use was
required.
In 2002 the Club commenced the construction of a Surf Rescue
Base at Queenscliff, located at the Santa Casa Beach.
