Services
Professional water safety and first aid services for your aquatic and other
event
Introduction
The Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club; established in 1947, has
had a fine record of providing assistance to the public, at no cost;
through Surf Rescue patrols at the Point Lonsdale Surf Beach.
Over the years, there has been a large increase in the number of
requests for our specialised equipment and trained personnel at a variety
of events. Therefore, the Event Safety Services section was established to
provide professional 'fee for service' operations.
This information has been produced to assist in clearly detailing
:
1. What services are available from the club.
2. How such services can be contracted.
3. Financial costs for the various services.

part of a State, National and International Surf Life Saving body.
There is always the desire to improve on the service which is
provided.
As Surf Life Saving is a specialised organisation, offering
expensive equipment, in a litigious environment and to cover various costs
it is necessary to have detailed legal and financial arrangements. These
are contained in this booklet.
Services
Available
There are a variety of services available, suited to the type of
event. These are indicated below.
1. Aquatic Services :
Most commonly this service is provided for events located in a
coastal or bay environment.
The service could range from total water safety for a swimming
event, to acting as a camera boat.
Equipment available includes :
Inflatable Rescue Boats /
Rescue Water Craft
Rescue Boards
Rescue Skis
Ancillary items such as First Aid equipment, Resuscitation
equipment, Two way radios and mobile telephones are normally required.
Large swimming buoys are also available for use at events where
the club is providing water safety.
2. First Aid :
Large gatherings often necessitate the provision of First Aid
services.
Although certainly not the largest organisation to provide such a
service, we may however able to assist at moderately sized events.
3. Other Services
:
There may be occasions where assistance is required at some other
type of event. This may be for a 'Paid Lifesaver' for a school visit to a
surf beach for example.
Community Education programs are available with a variety of
programs, levels of participant involvement and costs. Obviously such
education programs are not aimed as a revenue raiser and any fees are aimed
at covering operating costs.
For your particular requirement, contact the
Event Safety Services Coordinator to discuss your situation.
Fee schedule
All such events that the club participates in, must receive
approval from Life Saving Victoria, who provide insurance for our members
and public liability for our service. Surf Life Saving Australia have a recommended ratio of lifesaving equipment /
personnel for a range of events.
As a guide, the cost for an Inflatable Rescue Boat for less than
four hours is $ 375.
The ‘time’ calculated for the fee commences when the equipment
is operational at the site (including the setting up of swim courses) and
concludes when the equipment is no longer required by your organisation
(and the swim course is packed up).
