Course Overview:

The 1.4 km course is popular with swimmers as it is basically a 'straight line' course, you are not in 'deep' water, you are never too far from shore, tidal influences are generally with the direction of the swim and the smaller number of swimmers makes it a friendly and enjoyable swim.

It starts at the 'Springs Beach', located at the end of Lawrence / Bowen Road Point Lonsdale.

Swim Instructions:

Swimmers marshal at Golightly Park, Springs Beach carpark 30 minutes prior to race time.

Swimmers will be grouped according to the colour of their cap. Swimmers will not be permitted to race if their cap is not worn. Please assist race marshals by wearing your swim cap in the marshalling area.

At the request of the marshal, swim groups will enter the water in intervals according to the swim order, via the beach and will proceed towards the starting line.

Transport available from registration area to start.

Once the race has commenced the course is to the left of the marker buoys (seaward side). Please note the following suggestions:

(i) Robust swimming goggles are recommended.

(ii) Once the race has commenced, competitors are not to touch land until they have proceeded through finish arch on beach.

(iii) Swimmers should ensure that their race entry number is clearly visible on their arms as they cross the finish line.

(iv) Swimmers who do not complete the course must notify an official to have your race entry number recorded.

Safety:

To ensure that swimmers have a safe and enjoyable swim, the Club spends a lot of time planning our safety organisation. On the day of the swim, we suggest that you follow the safety directions :

1. There are a large number of Surf Lifesavers in attendance. Please do not hesitate to call on their assistance at any time. They are easily recognised in their Red and Yellow Patrol uniform.

2. Should you require assistance, then make your way to the nearest Board or Ski paddler who will assist you. If necessary you may be transported back to shore in one of the Inflatable Rescue Boats.

3. Should you need to have a break while completing the swim, then also make your way to the nearest Board or Ski paddler.

4. First Aid facilities are available from St. John Ambulance officers at the start and finish areas. A Medical Team, consisting of Ambulance/MICA Paramedics, St. John Ambulance officers and Surf Life Savers will also be in attendance at the medical area.

5. The Inflatable Rescue Boats that we have operating will attempt to stay as clear as possible from swimmers to reduce any discomfort from motor fumes. The motor propeller is fully enclosed in a protective case.
